a little while back, i had the chance to visit my dear bestie, danielle, in philly and document the school that she is so proud to be a part of.  hope partnership for education. their mission: breaking the cycle of poverty through education. man oh man, spending a few days with this beautiful group of people was so special to me. they were all filled with so much joy and light and i didn’t want to leave. to all of the students, teachers, parents, and administration of hope, you are truly an inspiration. i can’t wait to come back and photograph you all in your brand new space!

august 1988: the back to school jitters were starting to set in. i would be going to a new school with new friends and a brand new uniform. nervous nelly 8 year old me was definitely not psyched. i probably asked my mother at least 400 times what the first day of 3rd grade would be like. little did I know that there was a red-headed girl down the street asking the very same questions. like neurotic little soul sisters before we had even met. allie and I instantly hit it off way back in the 80′s and have been causing trouble ever since. allie, who I will now refer to as curl, is the friend i call when i need to laugh my head off. she is kind. she is hilarious. and most importantly, she is my best friend. she is a dare devil too. recently, curl decided to get a mohawk. as soon as I heard the words “purple mohawk” i knew that i needed to photograph her. i needed to capture how badass she is. badass and sweet at the same time. so here are some pictures of curl, my gorgeous best friend since 1988.
